5 Steps Involved in Recycling Aluminium Cans

Collection

The first step involved in the recycling process at the industrial level is collection. You have an opportunity of being involved in the recycling process by collecting all the soft drink cans bought on daily basis. Don't leave them to litter around. There are two major benefits of having aluminium cans recycled. Basically, aluminium is a non-biodegradable product, which means it does not decompose when dumped. Reprocessing

Once the cans have been collected, they are checked for any contaminations that can affect the recycling process and baled. The bales are then broken down into smaller pieces to come up with clean shreds. Next, the clean shreds are melted at high temperatures to come up with melted metal flows. The melted flows are preserved in a deep pit, ready for the process of casting. Finally, the cooling process is initiated by directly exposing the casted melted flows to water, where they solidify to form an ingot.

Rolling

The ingots formed are moved to a rolling mill and pre-heated at an extremely high temperature to experience their first hot rolling process. Next, they are cold tolled to produce the exact thickness the can requires.

Can-Making

The can-making process involves a cupping press designed to stamp out several cans with the desired shape. Based on the manufacturer's desire, the cans will vary based on size and the products housed. Finally, they are trimmed and washed using high-pressure air and water before a final print is made.

Filling

The cleaning process involves the use of both air and water. For that reason, air has to be extracted before filling up the cans. Once it is extracted, the cans are filled up with carbon dioxide gas as a preservative for the contents in it.
